Destiny School Teacher and Local Coach Randy Escobedo was arrested and charged with Luring a Minor for Sexual Exploitation back on October 8th, 2013. The alleged victim in the case is a 14-year-old female. Escobedo was released on a $14,000. bond.

Escobedo was listed on the Gila County Jail check in list but there was no information provided on the GCSO Activity Log about the incident. KQSS contacted Gila County Detective Emmett Dickinson to get more information. He said in Esocbedo’s defense “Everybody makes mistakes.” When asked why the Sheriff’s Office hadn’t sent out notice to the community and parents, he said there was no need to because “It’s not like that.” Dickinson also said that he didn’t think the fact that Escobedo is related to someone within the Sheriff’s Office was relevant and that

13-3554. Luring a minor for sexual exploitation; classification
A. A person commits luring a minor for sexual exploitation by offering or soliciting sexual conduct with another person knowing or having reason to know that the other person is a minor.
B. It is not a defense to a prosecution for a violation of this section that the other person is not a minor.
C. Luring a minor for sexual exploitation is a class 3 felony, and if the minor is under fifteen years of age it is punishable pursuant to section 13-705.
13-705. Dangerous crimes against children; sentences; definitions
E. Except as otherwise provided in this section, if a person is at least eighteen years of age or has been tried as an adult and is convicted of a dangerous crime against children involving luring a minor for sexual exploitation or unlawful age misrepresentation and is sentenced to a term of imprisonment, the term of imprisonment is as follows and the person is not eligible for release from confinement on any basis except as specifically authorized by section 31-233, subsection A or B until the sentence imposed by the court has been served, the person is eligible for release pursuant to section 41-1604.07 or the sentence is commuted:
